Unveiling Our Ongoing Deck Transformation: Expansion and Creative Pergola Design (Part 1)
Remember that project we talked about earlier involving our three season room and its supports? Well, things have taken an exciting turn since then! Over the past weekend, we dove headfirst into a new venture: expanding our deck that extends from the same room. But here’s the twist – we didn’t just settle for the ordinary.
You see, the deck was originally designed using a type of board that’s quite rare these days: the 2x7x8. However, we took the challenge in stride and opted for the closest match available, the 2x6x8. During this process, an unexpected burst of creativity came our way when Chuck shared a brilliant idea. He suggested a pergola-style addition that not only enhanced the aesthetic but also cleverly eliminated the need for extensive cuts. This innovation allowed us to maintain the full 8-foot length of the boards, making everything visually cohesive.
With the floor joists securely in position, we meticulously measured and tailored the floor boards to perfection. The old railing made its exit, and the new floor boards gracefully took their place. All in all, it turned out to be quite the satisfying day’s work. But the journey doesn’t stop here – there are still choices to be made regarding the railings and an upcoming transformation for the stairs.
Exciting times are ahead, and we’re eager to share every step of the way with you. Stay tuned for updates on our progress as we continue to bring our latest weekend project to life!
Love it!
